Hmm, well.
In advance, not so much a difficult draw for Ronnie.
Dear forum members, friends, what do you think about this?

I will write my "preview" in due time ... but yes, being in the same half as Maguire and Williams, while avoiding Allen and Selby looks OK. _________________ "When you see someone with tears in his eyes you want to help him. That was more important than any tournament."

Yesterday Liu Song made the most of his opportunity to compete on the MT despite not qualifying for it, winning his first round match against Ben Wollaston. Zhang Anda, Igor Figeiredo and Patrick Einsle did the same. Anthony McGill confirmed he's one to watch, as is IMO Kyren Wilson.
Alfie Burden, not surprisingly, proved too strong for Reanne Evans.

Zhang Anda edged a 5-4 victory over Jak Jones in Sheffield on Monday to raise his hopes of qualifying for the Roewe Shanghai Masters.
China's 18-year-old Zhang qualified for the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship last season and ran Stephen Hendry close at the Crucible, losing 10-9.
Against Welshman Jones, he made a break of 90 in going 3-1 ahead, then lost the next three frames. But a run of 63 made it 4-4 and he won the decider 60-44 to set up a match with Paul Davies.
Scotland's Anthony McGill continued his excellent start to his debut professional season by beating Thailand's Issara Kachaiwong 5-4. McGill made breaks of 104 and 89 and took the last frame 64-41.
China's Liu Song, who dropped off the main tour last season but has been handed a slot in the first two ranking events because of John Higgins' suspension, took advantage with a 5-3 win over Ben Woollaston, top scoring with 91 and 84.
Welshman Michael White had his scoring boots on in a 5-2 win over Liu Chuang, making 100, 101, 70, 65 and 67.
Germany's Patrick Einsle beat Simon Bedford 5-2 and there were also wins for tour newcomers Kyren Wilson and Liam Highfield | .
Today's matches (round 2)
Jimmy Robertson 4-5 James McBain
Matthew Selt 4-5 Alfie Burden
Mark Joyce 4-5 Thanawat Tirapaipongboon
Bjorn Haneveer 0-5 Matthew Couch
Tony Drago 5-2 Xiao Guodong
David Gilbert 4-5 Igor Figueiredo
Barry Pinches 5-4 Anthony McGill
Peter Lines 5-2 Joe Jogia
David Morris 5-3 Patrick Wallace
James Wattana 5-3 Liu Song
Paul Davies 1-5 Zhang Anda
Jimmy Michie 2-5 Jamie Jones
Andy Hicks 5-1 Kyren Wilson
Jimmy White 3-5 Liam Highfield
Joe Delaney 5-2 Patrick Einsle
Michael Judge 2-5 Michael White
I expect Liam Highfield to give Jimmy White a serious challenge.
Barry Pinches vs Anthony McGill - competent experience vs talented youth - should be interesting and shame we can't watch Tony Drago vs Xia Guodong as this should be an enternaining affair. _________________ "When you see someone with tears in his eyes you want to help him. | Quote: | Battling Barry Stuns McGill
Barry Pinches came from 4-1 down to beat Anthony McGill 5-4 and reach the penultimate qualifying round of the Roewe Shanghai Masters.
Norwich potter Pinches, who reached the final of the recent Star Xing Pai Players Tour Championship event two, opened with a 92 before McGill, who has also started strongly on the PTC and stands tenth on the Order of Merit, took control.
The young Scot made a top break of 82 in winning four straight frames to stand at the brink of victory. But Pinches fought back to take the next three for 4-4, then won a marathon 43-minute decider on the colours to earn a third round meeting with Rod Lawler.
Brazil's Igor Figueiredo continued to impress as he beat David Gilbert 5-4. Figueiredo was docked the first frame as he was not ready for play, having forgetting a fairly essential piece of equipment: his cue. But the South American bounced back to win the next three frames with top breaks of 83 and 87. Gilbert recovered to 4-4 before Figueiredo won the decider 71-36.
World Amateur Champion Alfie Burden edged out Matt Selt 5-4 with a break of 82 in the deciding frame, while Thailand's Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon beat Mark Joyce 5-4 thanks to runs of 64, 114 and 60.
Malta's Tony Drago scored a 5-2 win over Xiao Guodong with a best effort of 107, and another Chinese player fell as Liu Song went down 5-3 to Thailand's James Wattana.
But Zhang Anda kept up his hopes of qualifying for his home tournament by beating Paul Davies 5-1, closing with 74 and 84. |

Liam Highfield reached the third qualifying round of the Roewe Shanghai Masters with a 5-3 victory over crowd favourite Jimmy White in Sheffield.
Stoke's 19-year-old Highfield, playing his debut season on the pro Tour, showed his talent with a 138 break in the opening frame.
White, whose preparation was undoubtedly affected by a visit to Belfast for Alex Higgins' funeral on Monday, recovered to 4-3 with a top run of 74, and led 33-0 in the next before Highfield knocked in 27 and 45 to clinch victory.
Germany's Patrick Einsle fell 5-2 to Ireland's Joe Delaney while Andy Hicks beat Kyren Wilson 5-1 with a top break of 99.
Two young Welshmen also made round three; Michael White and Jamie Jones scoring 5-2 wins over Michael Judge and Jimmy Michie respectively. |
About yesterday's last batch of matches. Of course it is natural to suppose Jimmy's form was affected by the recent death of his friend Alex Higgins and the emotional funerals only the day before. But Liam was to be a hard opponent any time and he showed his talent there. _________________ "When you see someone with tears in his eyes you want to help him. Thailand's new snooker sensation Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon thrashed Nigel Bond 5-1 to reach the final qualifying round of the Roewe Shanghai Masters.
Playing in his first ever professional tournament, the player nicknamed Thai-Namite has risen to the challenge this week with wins over Justin Astley, Mark Joyce and now Bond.
He came from 52-0 down to win the first frame with a 42 clearance, then added the next two for 3-0. Former Crucible finalist Bond pulled one back before Thirapongpaiboon added the next two, closing with a 59 clearance. He now faces Mark Davis with the winner to go through to Shanghai next month.
Tom Ford motored to a 5-0 win over Matthew Couch in just 74 minutes with runs of 71, 60, 103 and 57.
Brazil's Igor Figueiredo saw his run ended with a 5-1 defeat to Ireland's Fergal O'Brien, who made breaks of 78, 74 and 62.
World Amateur Champion Alfie Burden beat Marcus Campbell 5-3 with a best effort of 78 while Jamie Burnett closed with a 138 in beating fellow Scot James McBain 5-1.

| Quote: | Doherty Through After O’Brien Marathon
Ken Doherty squeezed through to the final stages of the Roewe Shanghai Masters after a crucial error from Fergal O'Brien in the deciding frame of a 5-4 thriller.
The battle between two Dubliners lasted 3 hours 43 minutes and came down to the last few balls, and O'Brien had a golden chance when he potted yellow, green and brown to lead 42-41. But he agonisingly missed the blue and left it in the jaws of a pocket, and former World Champion Doherty slotted in blue and pink for victory. He now heads to China's second city for the world ranking event, which runs from September 6 to 12.
"I thought it was all over and I was about to put my cue away," said Doherty, who earlier made breaks of 78 and 71. "Fergal played well and I couldn't see him missing. He was unlucky with the blue and when I saw it in the jaws I jumped out of my seat.
"It's important to get off to a good start to the season. I want to get on a few good runs in tournaments - I got back up the rankings last year and now I want to be up with the big boys competing for titles. Every win is a step towards that."
Ricky Walden, the 2008 Shanghai champion, qualified with a 5-2 win over Anthony Hamilton, winning the last four frames with 75, 54, 74 and 58.
Hastings' Mark Davis came from 4-3 down to edge out Thailand's Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon 5-4 thanks to runs of 54 and 74 in the last two frames.
Andrew Higginson of Widnes made a 132 in the second frame against Alfie Burden, but eventually needed to clear from last red to pink in the deciding frame to win 5-4.
Glasgow's Jamie Burnett beat Michael Holt 5-1 and Bristol's Judd Trump saw off Tom Ford by the same scoreline. |

| Quote: | DAVIS WHITEWASHES LAWLER
Like Old Man River, Steve Davis just keeps rolling along.
The six times former world champion turns 53 later this month. Today he began his 33rd season as a professional by whitewashing Rod Lawler 5-0 to reach the final stages of the Shanghai Masters.
A 44 clearance gave him the first frame and he dished from green to black to steal the third.
Davis then finished off with breaks of 75 and 63 to secure a Shanghai meeting with Jamie Cope.
He will surely start as one of the favourites for the new World Seniors Championship in November, which will be shown in highlights form on Sky Sports.
It marks a further expansion of Sky's snooker portfolio after they signed a deal to screen the new One Frame Shootout next January. |

| Quote: | Superb Davis Lays Down The Lawler
Steve Davis stormed to a 5-0 victory over Rod Lawler to book his place in the final stages of the Roewe Shanghai Masters.
Davis kept up the form he showed in reaching the quarter-finals of the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship last season in a commanding performance against Liverpool's Lawler, highlighted by a 44 clearance to win the first frame on the black, and breaks of 75 and 63 in the last two frames.
"I nicked a couple of frames which I shouldn't have, and potted most of the balls that I went for," said Davis, who turns 53 later this month. "I'm still using the technical change I made before Sheffield, keeping my head down and staying still on the shot. I haven't played much this summer, but when I was practising that still seemed to be producing good results.
"It's great to win my first round game early in the season and nice to be going to Shanghai because I didn't qualify for China last season."
Zhang Anda saw his dream of qualifying for his home tournament ended by a 5-2 defeat to Matthew Stevens, who top scored with 101.
Stuart Bingham made breaks of 55, 58, 91 and 60 in a 5-2 win over Joe Swail, while Robert Milkins saw off Joe Perry 5-1.

Now I'm puzzled. GSC results indicate that Martin Gould lost 3-5 to Barry Hawkins, but his status on Facebook claims he won 5-4 and goes to Shanghai? I tried to check on World Snooker but somehow couldn't find the results anywhere. Only future tournaments are visible in the pick list and the definitive draw (with wildcards) isn't available yet.
